Heavy Metal in Celtic Sea Salt: Should You Really Be Worried?
Share
The latest reel doing the rounds warns us to avoid Celtic Sea Salt because of *gasp* heavy metals.
I sure hope whoever made that video lives high up on a remote mountain, far away from anything touched by mankind, because if you're seriously worried about metals in salt, youâre missing the forest for the trees.
I also saw a different post from another health expert claiming that Shilajit should be avoided too because itâs supposedly ârampantâ with heavy metals.
Letâs Be Clear About A Few Things
Fear is a marketing tool. When you're afraid, you're more likely to feel confused, vulnerable, and uncertain, and that makes you a perfect target. Youâre more likely to buy things you donât need, follow pages that spread nonsense, and engage with content designed to manipulate, not inform. Itâs not about truth. Itâs about attention. And fear captures it fast.
Anyone can call themselves a health expert these days. With an internet connection and a ring light, they can say almost anything with no qualifications and no accountability. Social media doesnât fact-check wellness advice, it rewards virality.
Itâs up to you to be smarter than that.
About Those Heavy Metals
Yes, Celtic Sea Salt contains tiny amounts of heavy metals and other contaminants. But you know what? So does all salt. So does your spinach. Your turmeric. Pretty much every herb, spice and supplement in your cupboard.
We live on a polluted planet. Welcome to Earth.
Hereâs What They Omitted From Their Reel
Heavy metals arenât just in your salt. Theyâre also in a thousand other places. It is literally impossible to avoid them completely.
It pays to ask questions. Ask brands: âDo you batch test for contamination of heavy metals?â Donât just boycott because TikTok tells you to, do your own homework.
Do heavy metal testing once a year. A simple blood and/or hair analysis can help you understand what youâve been exposed to and what may be accumulating in your body.
Support your filtration organs. Love your kidneys and liver. Keep your bowel moving. Your body already knows how to detox you, it just needs support.
Heavy metals are in the soil, water, air, and yes, even your organic kale.
Hereâs A Non-Exhaustive List Of Heavy Metal Sources
- Tap water
- Absolutely everything that comes from the ocean
- Absolutely everything that grows in soil
- Pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and insecticides
- Food additives, colourings, flavourings
- Cookware and glassware (no such thing as âpure stainless steelâ)
- Aluminium foil
- Canned food
- Cosmetics
- Injectables (yes, Botox and fillers!)
- Personal care products (toothpaste, shampoo, etc.)
- Cleaning products
- Vaccinations
- Traffic pollution
- Jewellery
- Vapes
- Dental fillings or implants
- Breast implants
- Every single supplement
- Antacids, pain relief, and other over-the-counter meds
- All prescription medication
Every single item listed here (and more) has a risk for contamination. Singling out Celtic Sea Salt while ignoring everything else is like blaming one ant for an infestation.
Letâs Use Some Common Sense
If you're going to share something about health, maybe sprinkle in some context, just a pinch, so people donât spiral into:
âWell f*ck it, everythingâs toxic. Might as well live on Maccas because weâre all doomed anyway.â
